Have a heart for the heartworm positive dogs

Tippy, one of the heartworm positive dogs we treated in 2009. She now has a family that loves her
Last January, the Humane Society of Stillwater made the ambitious decision to begin treating heartworm positive but otherwise adoptable dogs that came through Stillwater Animal Welfare. Prior to that, except for very special occasions, we could not save those dogs. This year, while we certainly could not save every heartworm positive dog that came our way, we saved 20 wonderful dogs who are now happy with new families! It took dedicated foster families and a lot of begging, bake-saleing and generous donations- but at the end of the year, we can all look back on those wonderful dogs and read the updates from their new families and honestly say it was worth every bit of effort.

Libby was a cruelty survivor and heartworm positive- she was treated and is now healthy and happy in her new home.

Now in the first week of the new year, we already have our work cut out for us!

Darling Skeeter the Chihuahua tested heartworm positive this week. We already have started his treatment and he has a foster home to go to. Lucky Skeeter!

Cormac is not a dog in our adoption program- he is with our partners at Animal Welfare. He needs an adopter willing to step up and take him home and have him treated. Contact them ASAP if you want this sweet, obedient boy.

Want to help us continue to save as many heartworm positive dogs as we can, please make a donation earmarked for heartworm treatment or come in and fill out a foster application to foster a heartworm positive dog. We can't help them without your help!
