Pet Watch from the director- 10/10/10

The director, some volunteers, two Humane Society alumni and one Humane Society dog still waiting for a home at the tournament

The Humane Society had a very exciting and fun fundraiser this past Saturday, October 2nd. The “Putts for Pets” Golf Tournament and Silent Auction held at the Stillwater Golf & Country Club had a phenomenal response from the community! Not only was the tournament full with 92 golfers participating, but the public also kept the auction bidding continuous up to the close. Due to generous participation and donors, HSS was able to collect $15,000 after expenses!

Some of the great auction items

The success of this tournament was largely due to the participation of the OSU Men’s Golf Team. They donated part of their “tournament free” Saturday to stand on the tee box and hit shots for teams competing in the scramble format. A $10 donation to the Humane Society of Stillwater was made for every tee shot made by an OSU golfer. The OSU team players were seniors, Mark Johnson and Kevin Tway; juniors, Bernhard Neumann, Michael Miller, Morgan Hoffmann, and Peter Uihlein; sophomores Drew Page and Sean Einhaus; redshirt freshmen Brad Gehl and Kevin Dougherty; and freshmen Ian Davis, Patrick Winther, and Talor Gooch. They all have big hearts for the homeless animals of Stillwater and were eager to help. HSS would like to thank them and Coach Mike McGraw for helping to make this fundraiser a true success.

We also want to give a big “Thank You” to the community for their donations of goods and services and participation!!! All three teams placing scored a 51. The winner was then decided by a “Hardest Hole Play-off” where each team’s scores from the “hardest hole” on the golf course were averaged to determine the placement. Our tournament winners were: 1st place team – Ken Alexander, Wanda Hughes, Barry Patton, & Brian Vowell; 2nd place team – Justin Crane, J.J. Forge, Tyler Neighbors, & Keith Plummer; 3rd place team – Cullen Carsens, Dick Fischer, Bob Lauvetz, & Nathaniel Lauvetz. Stillwater Country Club Gift certificates and a pair of KICKER ear buds were awarded to each player on the winning teams. Other prizes awarded were a PING driver and putter to Cheryl Carpenter Martin for the Longest Drive and an Ogio golf bag to Giddeon Traub for the Closest to the Pin. We hope to see you all on the Links again next year!!!

  1. Voice of Reason,
The HSUS is not associated with or funded in any part by the Humane Society of Stillwater, a local organization.
