Siamese, Shih Tzus and Shar Peis, oh my!

Archie, a Shih Tzu waiting for a home.

Mason, a 4 month old Shar Pei pup waiting for a family.

Mizu, a Siamese with all of the great personality traits a meezer lover will appreciate!

When you think of dogs at a Humane Society, you probably envision some so scruffy little mixed breeds or big, non-descript crosses. And you're right, we have plenty of those! And all of them are great pets worthy of homes. But what you probably don't envision is pure bred animals. According to the HSUS, one forth of dogs entering shelters are purebred! And based on my time in rescue, I would say that is a low number. AKC papers don't guarantee you a home!

A darling little 'ewok' (liver Shih Tzu) that we treated for heartworms and found a great home for.

One of a litter dumped outside the HS this summer. She is now in her new home.

So if you are looking for a purebred, don't think you can't adopt! Try your local shelter, then contact breed rescue or search on www.petfinder.com
