Pumpkin

Stillwater Animal Welfare is an open admissions shelter for the city of Stillwater. They will accept any pet, owner surrender or stray, from the Stillwater city limits during their business hours. Yet some people still find it acceptable to leave their pets abandoned after hours..(Tresspassing on our property to abandon animals is illegal.)

This is how I found Pumpkin, early one morning when I came in to take care of the animals. He was tied to the picnic table and had wrapped himself up so he couldn't move more than a few inches. In a situation like this, he was vulnerable to the elements, roaming dogs and wild animals who may not be so nice. Pumpkin was lucky- many animals who are abandoned on our property late at night aren't still alive when we find them.

His last owners left him with a heartbreaking note. It appears that they had tried to care for the Cocker Spanial to the best of their limited knowledge and ability. He was anemic and covered in fleas and flea dirt, he was severely matted and his nails painfully overgrown. His ears were infected and he had an open sore on his neck. When his stay at Animal Welfare was over, he was transferred to us.

Pumpkin had to be completely shaved, but he didn't seem to mind. After a visit to the groomer and treatment from our veterinarian, he felt much much better.

With all of the parasites gone and infections treated, he was a much happier boy. He starred in the O'Colly to promote our fundraiser (which he also participated in!). He charmed employees and volunteers.

And then one lucky day his forever family came walking through the shelter door.
Have a great life Pumpkin, you deserve it!
