Skip's disability

Skip when he came into Animal Welfare this summer as a stray

Ask anyone who their favorite dog at the shelter is right now and there is a good chance their answer will be Skip. He has a rock solid temperament- you can trust him to play with puppies or be hugged by a whole group of kids. He walks well on a leash and rides well in the car. He loves nothing more than to be loved on. We take him to adoption events and fundraisers. If someone needs a dog for an event, Skip is our guy.

But if everyone loves Skip so much, why have we had him longer than almost every other dog at the Humane Society?

Skip has a disability that causes him to be overlooked. And no, it has nothing to do with his missing leg. Skip's disability is that he is a big black dog. 3 legs or 4, big black dogs are the last dogs to be adopted.

If you or someone you know is looking for a dog, please remember that the dog with the flashiest colors or most perfect body may not be the one who is the right match for you. Spend just a few extra minutes with one of our less noticed dogs and get to know their personality.

So Skip, don't let it get you down! We know you're perfect, and you deserve a perfect forever home. We are committing to finding that for you, and we will keep you safe and happy until we do.
